Jamie Marks, PhD
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Michigan State University W.K. Kellogg Biological Station
ABOUT
I started my research journey at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, where I studied Andean Bear behavior. I wanted to learn more about working in a zoo so I accepted an internship at the New Orleans Audubon Zoo. I wanted to combine my love of animals with my passion for research, so I applied for PhD programs that focused on studying the whole-organismal phenotype. I earned my PhD in Integrative Biology from the University of New Orleans, where I studied how different environmental pressures effect insulin-like growth factors. I am currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Bronikowski lab at Kellogg Biological Station, Michigan State University. I am working the NSF-funded Biological Integration Institute "IISAGE: Sex, Aging, Genomes, Evolution," which works on sex-specific aging across the animal kingdom. My role is contribute to our understanding of sex-specific aging in reptiles.

SKYPE A SCIENTIST
February 2022
Jamie participated in the nonprofit 'Skype a Scientist' where she introduced school age children to what a day to day life is like as a biologist. The students had great questions about what it is like working with lizards. If you are interested in participating, click the sign up link below.
G2P2POP LAB EXCHANGE GRANT
June, 2022
Jamie was awarded the lab exchange grant from the g2p2pop Research Coordination Network. With these funds, she will visit Dr. Jerry Husak at the University of St. Thomas to learn techniques to measure: hematocrit and lactate levels after cold stress; heart ventricle size; and how to use a metabolic chamber to measure CO2 production within Anolis carolinensis.
